A letter from John Wilton

September 12, 2013

It is with regret that I announce the Associate Vice Chancellor and CFO, Erin Gore will be leaving Berkeley at the end of September to join Wells Fargo Bank as Executive Vice President leading the Commercial Banking Education & Nonprofit team.

During her four year tenure, Erin has led her team to build collaborative relationships throughout the campus and has transformed UC Berkeley’s financial infrastructure. Under her leadership, Berkeley has moved significantly towards best practice for budget and financial management in higher education and has contributed significantly to the campus goal of achieving financial sustainability. Two of many notable achievements include creation of the Middle Class Action Plan to support middle income families and serve as a model for the State of California’s Middle Class Scholarship Program; and implementation of CalPlanning and CalAnswers to provide Berkeley with clear, accessible financials and campus data. Erin’s tireless energy and unswerving commitment to excellence has impressed all who have worked with her.

It is our intention to seek a replacement for Erin and we have retained a search firm to conduct a nationwide search. Given that this will take time, I would like to communicate the arrangements we will make in the interim. We are fortunate that Erin has created an exceptionally strong team of direct reports who will continue to implement their on-going work. To help coordinate the day to day work of the group we have decided that the Executive Director of the Campus Budget Office, Laurent Heller, will be the Acting Associate Vice Chancellor and CFO. The Controller, Delphine Regalia, will report directly to me.

Please join me in wishing Erin well. Her many contributions have created a lasting legacy for UC Berkeley.

John Wilton
