Dear campus community,
We are writing with an update on efforts underway to address the campus’s budget deficit and to provide the University with a strong, stable and sustainable financial foundation.
Three years into our efforts to achieve a balanced budget by 2020, we are pleased to inform you that there is cause for cautious optimism. We are on track to reduce the budget from $149 million to $57 million by July 2018 and to eliminate the deficit altogether by 2020.

The Controller’s Office has rolled out a simplified travel reimbursement process that eliminates duplicate data entry by CSS, shortens processing time to payment and puts more control of the process in the hands of employee-travelers.

You may recall earlier this year we announced that our campus would be better served if the portfolio of the former Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance was separated into two: one focused on financial issues and one focused on administrative issues. At that time, Rosemarie Rae was elevated to the role of Vice Chancellor of Finance and Chief Financial Officer while this September, Marc Fisher joined us from UC Santa Barbara to become Berkeley’s Vice Chancellor of Administration.
