February 6, 2017

The Revenue Plan Template is an Excel workbook of templates to assist Divisional Finance Leaders in determining revenue from new initiatives for FY2017-18. Deans, Vice Chancellors, Divisional Finance Leaders, and Chief Administrative Officers received the template on February 6 via email from AVC-CFO Rosemarie Rae.

February 1, 2017

On February 1, senior campus leaders received their division’s FY2017-18 budget target via email from AVC-CFO Rosemarie Rae and EVCP Carol Christ. As discussed in recent forums, your unit can meet the target either through revenue generating programs or cost saving activities. This target is just the beginning point of our iterative budgeting process, which is a collaborative process that will require careful coordination within our limited time period.

Submit Self-Certification Forms or Request Exemption by February 24

Consistent with the new Recharge Budget Process deployed last year, we are integrating recharge activities into the broader FY2017-18 Campus Budget Process and the term of approved rates, to the extent possible, will be aligned with the fiscal year. 

As a follow-up to the EVCP's email on January 20 providing an overview of this year's Budget Process, this is the Strategic Plan template for you to use when developing your one-page strategic plan.

January 23, 2017

On Friday, January 20 Interim EVCP Carol Christ announced that she and AVC-CFO Rosemarie Rae will be hosting small-group budget process meetings with all campus divisions throughout February. Ensure you've completed your division's one-page strategic plan (template) prior to attending.  Read the email announcement.

The Office of the CFO and the DFLs came together on Thursday, December 15 for the latest Financial Forum. Suresh Bhat of Haas outlined the great work he and the project team have done on the Finance Competency Framework, Controller Delphine Regalia provided an update on Contracts & Grants and revenue recognition, Jon Bain-Chekal outlined progress on the Finance Reform Listening Tour and AVC-CFO Rosemarie Rae presented the plan for a simplified FY2017-18 Budget Process. The FY17 Forecast Working as been updated to include the approved FY17 Composite Benefit Rates (CBR) and approved FY17 General, Automobile, and Employment Liability (GAEL) rate.

CalPlan, the planning tool, will be closed for edits from 6pm on 10/27 to 7am on 10/28 while we update FY17 Forecast Working with the new Composite Benefits Rates (CBR) and General, Automobile, and Employment Liability (GAEL)(link is external) rate. The reporting tools, CalRptg and HCPRptg (including Smart View), will remain open for reporting purposes.

According to the 2014 University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey, ​​88% of undergraduates lived within 2 miles of campus and 84% walk or bike to campus. These numbers are stable from 2011 to 2014. Based on US Census data on areas where undergraduates lived, median rents increased in real dollars from 2011 to 2014. In 2014, students had to live farther from campus to pay the same amount of rent as in 2011.

In conjunction with Quarterly Reporting, we are launching a new Quarterly Forecast process to help campus leadership more accurately assess if we're on track to meet our financial goals. The Q1 Forecast submission is due on Tuesday, November 15.
