Operational Updates

New VC Finance operational deadlines calendar

To help you keep track of  the VC Finance operational deadlines from both the Controller’s Office and the Office of Financial Planning & Analysis, we’ve developed a VC Finance Operational Deadlines calendar, which outlines recurring annual deadlines. Wherever possible, we’ve included specific due dates. This list is a work in progress and we welcome your feedback. For now, the strategic project milestones will continue to be maintained monthly on the strategic project timeline. Reminders - upcoming operational work deadlines 

Verify your CalPlanning Access Provider and Tool Assistant by December 15

In preparation for the upcoming budget process, please verify your CalPlanning Access Provider (your division’s point of contact for requesting tool access) and CalPlanning Tool Assistant (your division’s point of contact for CalPlanning help). Please email the VC Finance Immediate Office with your updates via cfocommunications@berkeley.edu by Friday, December 15.

Ensure schedulers check CSIR data - due December 15

We recommend that throughout the year, you ask your department schedulers to review their 2017-18 Class Schedule and Instructor Record (CSIR) data in Student Information Systems (SIS) and Cal Answers as it becomes available, in order to ensure that it is as accurate as possible. This data is used by the UC Office of the President and the State Legislature, as well as internally for space and instructional planning, the Faculty FTE Call, and TAS allocations. If your schedulers need guidance on how to best enter the data, please have them contact Office of Planning & Analysis Research Analyst Kira Blaisdell-Sloan with questions at kbs@berkeley.edu.

DeptIDs planned for inactivation - requests in CalPlanning accepted through January 5

In preparation for the upcoming budget process, planners can restrict access to DeptIDs that are planned for inactivation in BFS. When submitting a DeptID for planned inactivation, please be sure to include a replacement DeptID within the same L6 as the DeptID planned for inactivation. The replacement value is required for each DeptID. Submit your requests for restricting access in CalPlanning by Friday, January 5 via dfl_concierge@berkeley.edu.  

Call for Course Materials and Service Fees and Miscellaneous Student Fees proposals - due January 5

Campus is now accepting proposals for 2018-19 Course Materials and Services Fees (CMSF) and Miscellaneous Student Fees (MSF). Proposals are due on Friday, January 5, 2018. To submit, download the Course Materials and Services Fee Proposal Form or the Miscellaneous Student Fee Proposal Form, complete the form, and email the submission to studentfees@berkeley.edu. Before submitting a proposal, please review the information online on the DFL Concierge webpage. Please direct any questions regarding the submission process, policies, or proposal requirements to studentfees@berkeley.edu.

Donor and Gift Services - January 5 deadline for year-end gift recording and receipting is just 15 business days away

Our University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) partners have asked us to remind you that Donor and Gift Services (DGS) has designated a Friday, January 5 deadline by which gifts must be received in the DGS office, corresponding to the UDAR-imposed Friday, January 19, 2018 deadline for 2017 gift recording to meet IRS guidelines. This is significantly earlier than in previous years, and will require advance planning by campus departments and other non-UDAR staff who communicate with donors and otherwise participate in gifts to Berkeley. For this reason we ask that you widely disseminate this information and the Eureka page outlining year-end guidelines to those of your colleagues who solicit and administer gifts, whether faculty or staff. Finance Literacy “Berkeley Financial Overview” on December 12 at capacity, class begins at 3pm

The third Finance Literacy course on Tuesday, December 12 titled "Berkeley Financial Overview" is now at capacity and is waitlist only at this time. For those registered, please note the time change - class begins at 3pm. If you missed our November course on Financial Statements or would like to review the material again, check out the website to access the course materials.
